THE Basshams are proud Riverland grape growers who made wine this year from varieties better suited to their warm region, hence vermentino. It’s also the first vintage of vermentino they’ve grown and, depending on crop levels, it has a bright future. Already the result is a refreshing, zesty drink with some crisp lime-lemon juice freshness, hint of white blossom and vermentino’s distinct and appealing salty character. Completely uncomplicated, making it the perfect summer quaffer that’s even better with fried sardines.
